COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Language B course is designed for students to further their linguistic skills. This course focuses on communications through the use of the Japanese language. It aims to develop the four primary language skills; listening, speaking, reading, and writing through oral and written language. During the course, students will interact and become familiar with aspects of the everyday life and culture of the Japanese speaking world. This ensures that the appropriate emphasis is placed on communication.
This course is designed around three main areas; language, texts, and cultural awareness. Within language, special attention is given to the four primary language skills; accuracy and fluency, and the areas of vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and intonation. The variety of texts, spoken and written, is adapted to suit the needs of intermediate students. Furthermore, cultural awareness is presented through the aspects of the everyday lives of the Japanese speaking people; such as their customs, eating habits, non-verbal behavior, attitudes, traditions, fashion, and folklore.

IB ASSESSMENTS:
8-10 minutes individual oral (internal assessment)
Interactive oral activity (internal assessment)
Written assignment of 600 – 800 letters plus 200 letters rationale for SL, 1000 – 1200 letters plus 300 letters rationale for HL (External assessment)
Paper 1 – Text-handling exercises (IB final exam)
Paper 2 – Compulsory writing exercises (IB final exam)
